The effect of different organic fertilizers on salt tolerance of giant reed (Arundo donax L.)

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in order to determine the effects of different organic fertilizers under salt stress (150 mm) conditions in giant reed (Arundo donax L.) ecotype. The trial was carried out according to the randomized split-plot design, in the summer of 2019, under greenhouse conditions. As a result of the study, salt stress has a negative effect on all of the examined features at varying rates and when evaluated on average, compared to the control; the rates of 13.6% in plant height, the rates of 42.6% in stem thickness, the rates of 5.2% in leaf width, the rates of 64.0% in leaf area, the rates of 37.1% in fresh leaf weight and the rates of 57.8% in dry leaf weight, the rates of 32.7% in fresh stem weight and the rates of 35.9% in dry stem weight, the rates of 46.8% in fresh root weight and the rates of 41.4% in dry root weight was determined that there were decreases, respectively. And also; while 34.7% decrease in LRWC value, 53% in MII, 16.5% in chlorophyll value, decrease 52.3% in green parts 65.0% in root K+ content, 48.9% and 60.2% decrease in green parts and root Ca2+ contents, 1297.5% in green parts and 1041.2% in root Na+ contents, respectively. However; 1151.5% and 1172.7% increase in green parts and root Cl- contents were observed. On the other hand, in organic fertilizer applications with salt stress, the average compared to salt stress; in plant height 18.1%, in stem diameter 125.4%, in leaf width 30.1%, in leaf area 43.0%, in fresh 85.5% and in dry leaf weight 52.7%, fresh 102.3% and dry stem weight 142.3%, root fresh 52.6% and dry weight 59.7%, respectively. 48.4% in LRWC, 43.3% in MDA, 11.1% in chlorophyll, 40.9% in green parts and 70.4% in root K+ content, 33.1% in green parts and 99.2% in root Ca2+ content, respectively. Improvements were determined in the Na+ content of the parts and roots by 27% and 32.6%, respectively, and in the Cl- contents of the green parts and roots by 23.5% and 31.0%, respectively. As a result, it is seen that the applied organic fertilizers affect the negativities caused by salt stress in a good way at varying rates, and among the applications, the bat manure stands out a little more than the others.
