Abstract (EN)

In recent years, the importance of cast iron has increased considerably in the metallurgy and materials science sector with the discovery of ductile cast iron. Unlike the first generation cast irons, a new class of ductile cast iron, called the second generation, emerged at the end of the 20th century. These materials, called ferritic sphero cast iron (solid solution strengthened ferritic ductile iron, SSF) reinforced with solid solution, have become a class of materials that are not as complex as the chemical structure of steel, have steel-like properties, are highly capable of processing, highly advantageous for the metallurgical sector and inexpensive to produce compared to steel, showing high mechanical strength as well as high elongation values. In this thesis study, it is aimed to create the chemical composition of EN-GJS- 500-14 quality and EN-GJS-600-10 quality material, which is one of the new generation sphero cast iron materials and whose production is not yet widespread, as a solution to the resistance differences caused by regional phase changes in the structure due to the different cooling speed seen depending on the section thickness in the casting parts, in such a way as to provide the mechanical test values given in the standard and to provide these properties in parts with a section thickness of 200mm and above. The risk of casting errors is higher, as cooling is slower in high-cross- section products. An effective inoculation will be implemented in order to prevent errors such as shrinkage, segregation and chunky graphite formation on SSF casting which is studied on limited ratios. The new generation ductile cast iron material group with ductile properties prepared within the scope of the thesis study was obtained by the combination of 16 different elements such as mainly iron (Fe), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), carbon (C), magnesium (Mg), in proper proportions. A casting part within the standards was created by adding these elements into the composition of the material in several proportions and at several times. As a result, optimum ratios were identified to meet the criteria defined in the standards by means of both chemical composition and mechanical properties. The production of these prepared cast iron materials is not widespread in the world yet. In Turkey, its production has not been optimized and Dirinler Casting Inc. was the first company to produce casting parts over 100 kg from this material group. Within the scope of the thesis study, it was examined in terms of mechanical properties of the metal material group, which is cheaper and lighter than steel but has similar mechanical properties to steel and contains 16 elements in its structure, which can be an alternative solution to steel casting production.
