Minerological and petrographic characteristics of tthe Keban thrust zone (between Kodikan-Yukarımişelli villages)

The Keban Metamorphite is located on the Keban plate in the Eastern Taurus Mountains, within the borders of Keban district. Keban plate includes Malatya and Pütürge Metamorphites as well as Keban Metamorphites. It consists of calcschist, calcphyllite, sericite-chlorite schist, metaconglomerate and marble units in lateral and vertical directions. Marble unit can be found in the form of massive and olistolitic masses in both calcschist and sericite-chlorite schists. Keban Metamorphite is located in the study area and its surroundings as intrusive contact and thrust fault. Keban Metamorphite, which is basically pelitic and carbonate origin, is metamorphosed under P-T conditions in the lower facies of greenschist facies. Keban Metamorphites and Elazığ Magmatites have formed a contact with Keban Thrust Zone and are cut by thrust fault. The Keban Thrust Zone is observed with alteration, dislocation metamorphism traces and skarn zone in some areas. Skarnization has developed between the recrystallized limestones of the Keban Metamorphite and the gabbros and granites of the Elazığ Magmatites. Elazığ Magmatites consist of diorite, tonalite, monzodiorite, basaltic/andesitic lava, dacite and pyroclastics. They are the products of the Calcalene island arc that developed in connection with the northward subduction of Neotethys from the Upper Cretaceous and the opening that developed on the subducting plate accordingly. Dislocation metamorphism in the region generally causes an event characterized by the rearrangement of mineral grains and the formation of new crystals at low temperatures as a result of mechanical deformations such as fracture, cracking, sliding and bending under the influence of tectonic forces.
