Abstract (EN)

In this study, seasional variations of total fatty acid compositions in muscle tissues of eel (Anguilla anguilla, L. 1758) and catfish (Silurus glanis, L. 1758) were investigated. Samples of A. anguilla and S. glanis have been obtained from Kemer Dam Lake, Turkey, in three months periods during one year as from August 2007. Fatty acid compositions have been determined in muscle tissues of fishes by gas chromatography. In muscle tissues, significant variations have been varied in fatty acid percentages among the seasons (p<0,05). According to the results, following saturated fatty acids palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0) and myristic acid (C14:0); monounsaturated fatty acids palmitoleic acid (C16:1), oleic acid (C18:1); and polyunsaturated fatty acids linoleic acid (C18:2?6), ?-linolenic acid (C18:3?6), linolenic acid (C18:3?3), eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5?3) docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6?3) and arachidonic acid (C20:4?6) were higher than the other fatty acids. It was concluded that seasonal variations in fatty acid percentages of muscle tissues of A. anguilla and S. glanis could be influenced by ecological and physiological factors.
