Abstract (EN)
This study investigates how lifestyle elements are analyzed in urban magazines. In this research, how Ankara is perceived, how social life is reestablished in lifestyle magazines and which classes have more representation level within this scope have been investigated. As a result, it is questioned how Ankara is associated with global tastes or modern life. Thus, the presentation of urban culture, consumption and social life spaces within the political and economic structure of the capital were subjected to critical discourse analysis. Within this scope, the news, advertising and photograph contents of the last three issues of Ankara Life and MAG, which are two popular urban magazines, were examined. In the first part of this study, consumer culture, the relationship between postmodernism and lifestyles were focused. Later, how capitalism generates itself by means of consumption, the historical stages of consumer culture, and the developmental stages of consumer culture in Turkey were discussed. In addition, the relationship between Shopping Centers, which have an important place in the socio-cultural structure of the capital city, and their lifestyles was questioned. While examining this change, how the liberal policies of post-fordist period and 1980s, which played an important role in the spread of consumer culture, was taken into consideration and the impact on lifestyles. In the second part, the concepts of journalism and lifestyle journalism are explained first. Then the historical development of journalism and lifestyle journalism in Turkey were represented. Furthermore, the concept of global city was questioned by explaining the relationship between the concepts of city and consumption. In the last section, the findings and the results obtained from the study based on the contents of the journals are given.
