Analysing of the physical and performance components of architecture faculties located in the city

As a result of the transformation and transformation processes of the cities, the urban population has increased, urban problems and settlement problems have intensified. With the increase in population density, the value of urban settlements also increased. The place of education institutions in the center of the cities has been questioned in this value transformation process. As an element of urban need, educational institutions, which are an important element in the city, are moving away one by one from the city center. The aim of this study is to question the place of the educational institutions in which the architectural education is given by using the criteria determined by Kevin Lynch. In cities seen as a laboratory for the profession of architecture, the role of all components - roads, regions, borders and edges, sign elements, nodes in the city of architecture is examined. With the contribution of this study, it is aimed to question the urban location in architectural education and to understand how urban location reflects on architectural education. As a method of study, it was examined through the maps how the subjects, who were interviewed and created a map of urban perceptions of three architectural faculties (Yıldız Technical University, İstanbul Technical University, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) establish a perceptual linkage with their surroundings and the five urban image criteria determined by Kevin Lynch. Furthermore, in the light of the interview data made with the lecturers who are actively involved in architectural education, the reflections of faculties in the city on the education in architecture were tried to be determined in the light of the findings of this process, the urban image maps of the subjects (architectural students trained in architecture faculties in the city) showed the close connection with the city in the light of each criterion determined. The proximity to the city center has also been reflected in the result as a proximity to urban elements. The three faculties of architecture located in the city center (Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul Technical University, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) have strong perceptual consequences in terms of performance criteria of the city. The close imaginary link with the main components of the city has a positive effect on the efficiency of architecture education. Being located within the city at the point of getting to know and perceive the city provides architectural students with the advantage of urban experience. The results of the Arkitera Campus Project, a series of interviews conducted in 2014, have also been examined. In the interview, data on education policy obtained from the faculty of architecture faculties in Turkey shows that the faculties of architecture located in the city aim to benefit from the city as high as possible. The faculties of architecture located outside the city are trying to solve the disadvantageous position by identifying project areas within the city and creating course contents that bring them closer to the city. There is a relationship between the architecture and the city, giving birth to each other. For the relevance and continuity of the relationship, the bond of two cases must be established strongly. The position of the faculties providing education of the architectural profession in the city is very important for the correct functioning of the relationship established. The city center needs to be close to architectural education and architecture to be close to the city's dynamics.
