Abstract (EN)
The greenhouse effect and global warming in the world increase the effects of climate change. Climate change effects due to unconsciously consumed resources; irregularities in rainfall, damage to vegetation, melting of glaciers, forest fires, drought, etc. It is seen as. These effects at the global level are very important in terms of raising awareness of people and the application of ecological approaches. In this context, planning and design criteria in urban areas vary with landscape ecology. Especially in order to cope with drought, water must be used effectively. Xeriscape (Arid Landscape Design), an ecological approach, aims to use water effectively. Xeriscape design is carried out with the principles of selection of plants suitable for the region, effective irrigation, mulching application and creating minimum grass areas. In this context, the Coast Park in Silivri district of Istanbul was chosen as the study area. The method of the thesis consists of three stages. A literature review on the subject was made, the current situation in the sample area was determined, and the proposed xeriscape design ideas were created by zoning the area. Within the scope of the study, the size of the area, the number and types of plant groups in the area, the deciduous and evergreen status of the plants, their suitability for xeric landscape design or not, the water demand levels of the plants were determined. According to the data, the suitability of the area for xeric landscape (first region 51%, third region 90%) was determined. In line with these features, plants suitable for the design (Cercis siliquastrum, Yucca filamentosa, etc.) were preferred. Subsequently, designs for the area were developed with plan and perspective views. As a result, within the scope of the study, the importance of xericscape and the need to use water effectively were emphasized.
