Abstract (EN)
The changes in economic, social and political conditions affect the urban lifecontinuously. Because of changing urban dynamics, urban planning have had toreevaluate their professional approach. After the First World War, the conceptof urban renewal was first considered by urban planning agenda. But, the aims,organization and management models have changed by the time. Today theparts of the cities, both in developed and developing countries have to faced therenewal process as a result of spatial organizations. Therefore, urban renewalhas become one of the most important problems of the local authorities andplanning. The aim of this thesis is to understand urban regeneration issues, anew concept in Turkish planning literature, to search the dynamics of urbanrenewal project as a tool for creating urban renewal policies, by means ofinvestigating changes and transformation processes realized in urban centersand to propose suggestions for a region of the North Ankara, from economical,social, cultural, technological as well as spatial points of view. In order to dothat, beside a detailed focus on North Ankara Entrance UrbanRegenerationProject, urban regeneration examples from Ankara wereexamined. The methodology used in the thesis research is composed ofliterature, internet surveys, deep interview with project population andinterpretations based on past experiences.
