Abstract (EN)

The concept of urban security, which was adopted in 1992, gained importance in order to create livable and sustainable cities within the framework of the rights of the citizens highlighted in the European Urban Charter. Designs that do not make an effective impression on the user and are uncomfortable in terms of use increase the likelihood of criminal and anti-social behavior. Therefore, in areas where crime is high, environmental design plays an important role in reducing crime and improving the perception of trust. In the studies conducted at the Chicago School at the beginning of the 20th century, while examining the behavior of criminals, attention was drawn to the physical and social environment that affects individual behavior. The scientific approach, called the theories of crime ecology, examines the relations of crime with the environment and explains crime as a function of social change that occurs with the change of the environment. Crime prevention theories have emerged through environmental design, which includes approaches to using design as a tool to reduce opportunities that lead to crime. In this study, the relationship between security-the design of urban open green spaces and the perception of space was investigated in order to reach a safe city design for the perception of social trust required by the sustainable, livable city and the urban renewal works that lead to the formation of these cities; Landscape design criteria have been determined in urban renewal areas. For this purpose, the spatial characteristics and design criteria put forward by the crime ecology theories, as well as the criteria created by K. Lynch for space and perception, were evaluated and these criteria were differentiated and gathered under five dimensions. These; social profile, comfort, harmony, readability and transparency. The sub-headings created in these five dimensions and below are defined as the design impact indicator set. Finally, all indicators were tested on the selected sample area (Dikmen Valley) and a 'Design Impact Assessment' was conducted to measure the effect of spatial features on the perception of trust on the individual in urban open green areas.
