Ages and curtains in the light of Keşfu'l Mahcûb

This thesis examines the concept of "veils" (ḥijāb) as discussed in Kashf al-Maḥjūb, one of the foundational works of the Sufi tradition. The study evaluates Hujvīrī's approach to the notion of ḥijāb in comparison with the interpretations of other prominent Sufi thinkers. In doing so, it reveals both thetheoretical foundations and the practical dimensionsof the concept within the context of Sufi epistemology and spiritual progress (sulūk). The research is not limited to a text-centered analysis; rather, it adopts a comparative and holistic approach by examining various interpretations from different historical periods. The necessity of this study arises from the need to reinterpret Hujvīrī's epistemological perspective and to restore the original meaning of the "veil" concept, which has undergone semantic shifts in modern readings of Sufi thought. Through this methodological framework, the position of the ḥijāb concept in Sufi philosophy is explored within asystematic and contextual structure, drawing on both classical texts and later commentarial traditions. This synthesis contributes to a renewed understanding of the classical Sufi heritage within its own integrity and highlights the continuity of the "veil" concept throughout the Sufi tradition.
