Abstract (EN)

In this study, the behaviour of caisson type breakwaters was investigated as experimental and numerical under seismic loads. Experimental study was carried out by using caisson block model in shaking tank for different values of amplitudes and frequencies under regular harmonic seismic waves. The height and width of the caisson block model were 0.40 m and 0.35 m, respectively. Model scale is 1/10. The water depth is 0.40 m in the tank. The caisson model placed on the rigid bed. One dimensional sliding block method is proposed to evaluate seismic behaviour of caisson type breakwaters after completed experiments. Therefore flow chart was prepared based on Newmark sliding block concept and equations take from flow chart were written in MATLAB program. Calculated sliding displacement results were compared with experimental sliding displacement results and consequently; if static and dynamic friction coefficients used, proposed method would properly predicts the sliding displacements of caisson type breakwaters. Keywords: Sliding block concept, caisson type breakwaters, shaking tank.
