The effect of girdling (ring-barking) application on defloration and fruit yield of kilis yağlik and gemlik olive varieties

In this study, the effects of the girdling applications on the defloration and fruit yield of Kilis Yağlık olive variety in Kilis/Musabeyli and Gemlik olive variety in Gaziantep/Nurdağı were examined. Single girdling and double girdling applied during the full florification period and full florification + small fruit periods. As a result, Kilis Yağlık olive trees, which is used for Double Girdling application, showed highest fruit setting (3.47%). The maximum fruit weight (3.86 g) and aspect length (width:17.44 mm, length:22.46 mm) were obtained from Gemlik Olive variety trees with Double Girdling application. Fruit flesh/seed ratio (4.48%) and yield per tree (51.27 kg/tree) were obtained from the Kilis Yağlık Double Girdling application. The outcome of this study, the number of fruits, fruit set ratio, aspect lenght of fruits, fruit weight and yield per tree in both varieties showed superior properties compared to all control groups in the applications.
