Abstract (EN)

Echinococcus granulosus species is a member of the Cestod class causes andCystic Echinococcosis which is a cosmopolite zoonosis. Cystic Echinococcosiswhich is one of the most severe helminth infections which are seen in humanbeings are commonly experienced in the countries where sheepfarming andstock farming are performed. Larval type of Echinococcus granulosus which isalso seen in our country negatively affects the health of the people and theanimals to be slaughtered, workforce and efficiency and causes seriouseconomic losses. In this study, it is aimed to diagnose whether the patients who are suspected ofthe having Cystic Echinococcosis are really infected whit the disease in theirserums by means of IHA method, measure their immunoglobulin levels by meanof nephelometric method, and examine their change in the oxidant status. For this research, serums of 361 patients were received who applied to RefikSaydam Hıfzıssıhha and Etlik SSK Hospital between 2003-2005 and aresuspected of the having Cystic Echinococcosis. It was found that 201 (55,6%)out of 361 patients were positive for the disease.IgG, IgA and IgM levels were measured by means of the IHA method in thepositive and negative samples. Levels of thiobarbutiric acid reactive substances(TBARS) which are an indicator of lipid peroxidation and levels of gluthation(GSH) which is an important antioxidant in serum and the myeloperoxidase(MPO) activity were investigated. As a result, while IgA levels of the IHA method in the positive patients sampleswere increased, IgG and IgM levels weren?t changed. In addition, TBARS leveland MPO activity were increased but GSH levels weren?t changed in serum ofpatients.
