Abstract (EN)

In parallel with the rapid increase in the world population, people's need for transportation is increasing day by day. Today, a significant portion of transportation needs are met by motor vehicles, and most of them consume petroleum-derived fuels. Due to global warming, climate change and environmental pollution problems, it is important to improve the exhaust emissions of vehicles with internal combustion engines. In addition to the concern that the world's oil resources will one day run out, studies are continuing for engines with high fuel efficiency. In this thesis study, it is aimed to improve the exhaust emissions of a single-cylinder diesel engine as well as to increase the engine performance. For this purpose, a filter containing zeolite was designed to obtain oxygen-dense air. It is aimed to improve performance and emission values by feeding air to the diesel engine. 6 different zeolites, including natural and synthetic zeolite types, were used in oxygen concentrator filter. Acid, lithium and calcium modifications have been carried out in natural zeolites in order to improve their oxygen concentrating abilities. The oxygen-dense air obtained by oxygen concentrator filter was fed to the diesel engine and 10 different emission and performance parameters were recorded. According to the data obtained, the oxygen concentration rates of zeolites were determined as natural zeolite, acid modified zeolite, calcium modified zeolite, lithium modified zeolite, 4A synthetic zeolite, 5A synthetic zeolite from largest to smallest. As a result of the engine tests, an increase in torque, exhaust gas temperature, in-cylinder pressure, noise, vibration and NOX values, and a decrease in brake specific fuel consumption, CO, HC and smoke density values were obtained.
