Abstract (EN)
IV ABSTRACT The continuity of the positive properties of reinforced concrete element depends on its durability. Besides its ability to sustain loads, concrete is also required to be durable. The durability of concrete can be defined as its resistance to deterioration resulting from external and internal causes. The durability of concrete depends mainly on its permeability. There are different factors that affect the durability of reinforced concrete structures. The external causes include the effects of environmental and service conditions which concrete is subjected, such as weathering, chemical actions, frost and de-icing, carbonation, corrosion of reinforced concrete, etc. The internal causes are the effects of salts, in the constituent materials, interaction between the constituent materials, such as alkali-aggregate reaction, volume changes. Embedded steel in reinforced concrete members is protected from corrosion by alkaline composition of the concrete which is provided mainly by the dissolution in the pore water of the Ca(OH)2. However, this positive property of the concrete may be lost in time due to carbonation of hydrated components of cement especially, Ca(OH)2 which is converted to CaCC>3 with diffusion of CO2 from the environment into the concrete pore system during carbonation process. This phenomenon is accepted one of the main factors determining the service life of the reinforced concrete members. As the corrosion of the reinforcement is one of the most important factor mat negative influence the service life of reinforced concrete structures. In mis study, the factors which affect the durability of the buildings that are constructed with conventional and developed conventional systems whose structuralV system is skeleton system, by spoiling the reinforced concrete elements are examined. The precautions which have to be thought of at design and production processes are explained. Especially, the carbonation and the corrosion of reinforcing bars which affect the resistance and the durability of the reinforced concrete member negative are examined. In the first chapter, the importance of the joint made with reinforced concrete in the structural system of the building is defined. Also, the resistance and the durability of the reinforced concrete members are defined. The relation between the reinforced concrete member's durability and the construction system is studied. And the factors which affect its durability are examined. In the second chapter, the properties of concrete and reinforcing bars which together form the reinforced concrete joint are studied. The importance of the adhesion which affect the resistance and the durability of the reinforced element is stated. In the third chapter, the carbonation which affect the durability of the reinforced concrete member and the corrosion of the reinforcing bars are examined. In the conclusion, the precautions which have to be taken in consideration during the design and production processes are explained in order to produce buildings which are resistant to internal and external affects. tc
