General overview to ornaments of Konya Sahip Ata Mosque

Konya has been one of the most reconstruction intense activities living places because of being capital of Anatolia Seljukians. Many works have been given in this period and the most exclusive samples were seen at mosque architecture.Sahip Ata Mosque that was built at the beginning of the 13th century is one of the most beautiful examples of mentioned period. The ornaments of mosque which has an excellent portal, minaret and mihrab that were covered by tiles and attack attention are subject of our thesis. It has been purposed that examining and documented the Mosque?s architectural elements that are covered by stone, brick and tile regarding to technical, material, motif, pattern, composition and method features, composing a resource that can be transferred to future generation because of settings forth style features of its built period. Descriptive method has been used at research but gathering data has been performed by photograph, measuring and drawing.At the end of examinitions, it has been determined that geometric compositions were more used than herbal composition in general of mosque; geometric and herbal ornaments was not used in the same compositions. Six, eight and ten armed stars, lapses were used at geometric ornament; curved branches, acanthus leaves and rumi patters were used at plant ornament. Low and high embossing techniques, glazed brick at brick decoration, and indent tiles were used at stone ornamentation and mosaic tile technique was used the mihrab.At the end of evaluations, it has been understood that Konya Sahip Ata Mosque is a unique work regarding architectural elements and ornaments but its originality has been damaged due to not protecting sufficiently and wrong restoration works.
