Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the success of the 'Kralkızı Dam Basin Green Belt Afforestation Implementation Project', which was carried out between 2013 and 2017. Within the scope of this watershed reclamation project, the activities aimed at afforestation, soil and water protection, wildlife development and rural development were evaluated as of 2024. The successful and unsuccessful aspects of the project were examined. In the research, the physiological and morphological characteristics of the planted saplings were examined as coniferous and leafy species. Soil cultivation studies aimed at soil and water protection were evaluated. In addition, face-to-face interviews were held with rural administrators and local people in the region to obtain information about the current status of the project. It has been observed that red pine, pistachio, red pine, oak and lavender were planted in the project area and the saplings were generally successful. Drought and negative soil properties caused the saplings to dry out. Regionally, success in setting seedlings is higher in areas with deep soil and relatively moisture. Tillage and planting saplings in marginal areas have failed. Local people stated that they were very satisfied with the project. They also stated that illegal grazing was taking place. At the end of the project evaluation, it was understood that working in a partial area, instead of full-area tillage and mass planting of saplings, would increase ecological and economic success. It is also thought that by taking the area under protection, it will make significant contributions to biodiversity.
