Abstract (EN)

The study area is located in Alacakaya town which is approximately 70 km SE of Elazığ. Different lithological units are present in Guleman area. Dominant rocks are ophiolitic rocks belonging to Guleman ophiolite. The host rocks involve harzburgite and dunite which both somewhere have been serpentinized.Bitlis Metamorphites are represented by crystallized limestone in the study area and thrusted by Guleman ophiolite. Guleman ophiolite made up of tectonites which comprises dunite and chromite bearing harzburgites and cumulates which contain dunites, wherlite, clinopyroxenite, gabbros, diabase dykes, sheeted dyke complex and basic volcanites are other constituents of the ophiolite. The most important geophysical methods for exploration of the chromite deposits used are elektrical prospecting, EIP, gravity method, magnetic method and electromagnetic method. In this study electrical method and seismic method is selected. These methods were applied at East and West Kef areas. The results of the methods showed a high rezistivity at 120- 160 metres interval along the traverses DES-2 and DES-3, what was probably caused by chromite ore horizons. Geophysical findings are in good agreement with geolical data.
