Abstract (EN)
Entertainment in mass societies presented to the people is developedby the sovereign powers, producers of the culture industry. These productswhich are professionally created are the resorts for most people trying toescape from the difficulties of life. However their contents are very harmful tothe abilities of thinking, criticizing of the professionals. Types ofentertainment of the culture industry which make the people passive andconvert them to the purchasers satisfied with the things offered to them andthe effects of these kinds of entertainment on the Turkish society are thebasis of our literature search. To exclude the illusion of cultural problem arise from the masses theconcept of ?culture industry? is employed in our research instead of theconcept of ?mass culture?. Theory of pluralism has defended that industrialculture ensures the masses to access the cultural products which areinaccessible at the past and is very democratic as it informs them. Howeverthe Frankfurt School perceives the industrial culture as a tool to dominateand manipulate the societies and criticizes as it dulls the ability of questioningof the people. Based on the critical theory of the Frankfurt School it is foundthat the appearance of the industrial culture which we are examining is amixture of the concept of entertainment, politics, sociology andcommunication. This study contributed to the literature as it quotes theeffects of the entertainment contents on the Turkish society, which are verysimilar to each other and prepared at the lowest level, classifies theentertainment and makes detailed evaluations on the developments aboutthe computer and game technologies.
