The criteria that effect the design of cultural centers: The case of Turkey

Significant social and cultural movements in the world cause the emergenceof the cultural centers. In this study, the selected samples of these buildingsin Turkey that are constructed and in use are examined. The purpose of thisthesis is analyzing the architectural design criteria of cultural centers, toadvance a proposal for effective usage of these buildings and using thesedata in constitution of a source and guide for further designs. In the firstsection, hypotheses in accordance with this purpose are stated. Within thescope of the study, the information about the cultural centers in Istanbul,Çankırı, Ankara, Samsun, Edirne, Konya, Nevşehir is collected. Thelocation of these buildings, the relations with the city, architectural formand manner, functional relations, construction technologies and usedmaterials are searched. Table of analyses are used as the research method inorder to compare the samples. In the conclusion section, the comparison ofsamples is evaluated, the hypotheses are tested and proposals are advanced.
