Abstract (EN)
Ankara became the capital city with the proclamation of the Turkish Republic, and construction activities were initiated in line with the plans prepared for the establishment of a modern city in the north-south direction outside the castle fortifications. Built as an exemplary city for Anatolia, the capital Ankara also started to host many new building typologies during this period. One of these modern building typologies is the State Theatre buildings that could revitalize the social and cultural life in the city. State Theatre buildings, which represent the social and cultural history of the capital city and thus the Republic of Turkey, are important architectural representations and integral parts of cultural memory of the city. Therefore, the documentation of Ankara State Theatre buildings is necessary for the continuity of cultural history. This study aims to shed light on the modern cultural history of the city through the written and visual documentation of Ankara State Theatre buildings.
