Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to reveal the metaphors in the Holy Quran by considering the uses of the period in which it came down. In the first part, what the metaphor and metaphorical meaning is, together with its historical background will be examined. In the second part, the definition and usage of metaphor in classical and contemporary philosophy will be examined and then the opinions about the place and function of metaphors in human thought system will be put forward according to cognitive philosophy. According to this understanding, metaphorical style is a method that exists at the basis of human language use. And metaphors take place in thought before language. What is metaphor will be defined within the framework of the contemporary metaphor theory shaped according to this view and with the support of the paradigm of everyday language philosophy. In the last section, some of the metaphorical expressions in the Holy Quran will be explained by considering their usage in the language.
