Abstract (EN)
This study presents a critical and analytical examination of the foundational principles of Quranic interpretation within the Quranists movement, with a particular focus on Rashad Khalifa as a central figure. It traces the intellectual and historical roots of the movement and outlines its key interpretive characteristics. The research explores Khalifa's intellectual development and critically assesses his methodology, which is marked by the rejection of the Prophetic Sunnah, an individualistic reading of the Quran, and the use of the "Number 19" theory to claim a numerical miracle. Employing a comparative and critical approach, the study analyzes selected examples of Khalifa's interpretations in contrast with traditional exegetical methods that emphasize the interdependence of the Quran and the Sunnah. It investigates the background of his approach, particularly his denial of the Sunnah and reliance on numerical theory, which he claimed revealed hidden keys to understanding the Quran. The findings indicate that isolating the Quran from the Sunnah results in an incomplete and flawed understanding. Moreover, the study demonstrates that Khalifa's method lacks scholarly rigor, exhibits selectivity, and significantly diverges from the principles of established Islamic exegesis. It highlights contradictions within his thought and underscores the potential risks his approach poses to the integrity of Quranic interpretation and the unity of Islamic scholarship. The research concludes that Rashad Khalifa's approach represents a subjective interpretive effort rooted in personal assumptions rather than grounded scholarly ijtihad. Such approaches, the study argues, threaten the coherence of Islamic understanding and the stability of its foundational doctrines.
