Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Master of Science Thesis APPLICATIONS OF SPHERICAL TOKAMAKS GÖKHAN SERİN Anadolu University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Physics Program Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Kudret OZDAŞ 2002, 84 pages In this thesis, spherical tokamak applications in some countries were investigated. START and MAST in England, NSTX in USA and STPC spherical tokamak in Turkey were examined in detail. As being different from trditional tokamaks, characteristics and methods used in spherical tokamaks are examined. Advantages of these methods are stated. By doing comparisons between spherical tokamaks and other tokamak models, it is seen that spherical tokamaks are more advantagous in terms of getting energy from fusion. It is found that spherical tokamaks give better result especially in terms of high-beta ratio and low aspect ratio by considering the results of some experiments. To get spherical tokamaks with high performance, planned projects in the future are being presented. Keywords: Tokamak, Plasma, Aspect Ratio, Beta Ratio, Toroidal and Poloidal Magnetic Fields
