Preservation of cultural values in urban spaces during the globalization process: Nevşehir example

Document analysis method was used in this study, which aims to reveal the impact of globalization on the cultural values of places in Nevşehir and what should be done in the region for sustainable conservation, taking these effects into consideration. During the research process, the relevant literature was scanned and many official documents and data were examined. In addition, in order to increase reliability and ensure data diversity in the study, historical and cultural buildings (hotels, restaurants, museums) in Nevşehir province were analyzed through consumer comments on the Tripadvisor.com website in order to reveal the local's stance against globalization and to address the relations between globalization, tourism and cultural values. Content analysis was performed. The results obtained in the study; Rather than protecting historical, natural and cultural values, the aim has been to support construction, increase the number of multi-storey buildings and support urban transformation projects. Today, the increasing number of high-rise workplaces, plazas, hotels and shopping malls have become the new favorite places of cities. Such constructions standardize cities and cause urban identities to disappear over time. In the research, cultural tourism is economically important for the region; It has been determined that boutique hotels, rock-carved hotels, touristic facilities, restaurants and cafes of foreign cuisines have gained momentum with the development of tourism and their numbers are increasing day by day. This situation can be shown among the environmental effects that it damages the historical, natural and cultural structure of the region. In order to provide sustainable protection in Nevşehir within the scope of the research findings; Local identity also needs to be protected and developed. Thus, the urban space will be able to maintain its originality and urban identity. Protecting and supporting cultural heritage features, diversity, historical and natural riches and production should be among the priority activities.
