Abstract (EN)

As of 1980s, the existence of fast globalization and evolving of information and communication technologies unified the world markets; foreign investments and partnerships became the first involvement of most countries. Formerly rival companies today cooperate in all stages from the searching and production to selling and service.In recent years, mergers and acquisitions between companies become widespread in international business. Companies increase their competitive strenghts by benefiting each other?s capital resources, technological and management experience. With this way, they also get larger share from the world markets. Today in most countries, companies tend to merge for assessing the opportunities and obtaining more powerful structure by creating synergy.In the first section of this work, the globalization concept, the basic dynamics of globalization and the strategies of companies in this process are examined. Second section introduces the concepts of firm mergers and acquisitions, possible consequences of mergers and acquisitions, practices of Turkey and world. Last section searches the structure of organized food retailing sector in the name of mergers and acquisitions, global retailers and the internationalization of the sector. It is also assessed Tesco Kipa merger process as an example of merger.
