The dialect of Dumlupınar district of Kütahya

In this study, a research for the dialect in Dumlupınar District of Kütahya has been carried out in order to detect the features of a dialect, which is the purest and the most precise form of Turkish Language against the rapid developing technology. In the light of the obtained information, the features of the dialect in the area have been examined separately in terms of phonetics and morphology. Thus, the phonetic and morphological differences between the dialect spoken in Dumlupınar District of Kütahya and the written language have been exhibited in accordance with Turkish Dictionary and Spelling Book of Turkish Language Association. This research has been conducted in 10 villages of Dumlupınar District whose names are Ağaç, Allıören, Arpalı, Büyükaslıhanlar, Eyidemir, Hamur, Kızılca, Küçükaslıhanlar, Selkisaray, Yüylük. Analysis is based on the tape recording of the individuals who still protect the features of the dialect in the region. These recordings have been written down on the basis of transcription system. Our study is examined in three sections of phonetics, morphology, and text; following that dictionary, bibliography and index are taking part. In the phonetics section, consonants and vowels are analyzed and the differences between the features of the written language and the dialect in Dumlupınar are put forward. The detected phonetic events are supported by plenty of examples. As for the morphology section, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, prepositions, conjunctions and exclamations surviving until today in the dialect of the region have been dealt with and derivational affixes, inflectional suffixes, modalities and gerunds are explained and exemplified. These examples are numbered in parenthesis with their section and sentence numbers. Finally, the text section consists of 17 texts which were composed by interviewing 24 people in the villages. In the dictionary part, the words specific to the area are explained in order for readers to understand better. In bibliography, the resources we have made use of are indicated while the index is designed with the aim of making terms stated in the thesis easy to find.
