Abstract (EN)

The scope of this thesis, exact location of Kütahya Fault was determined with geological, geomorphological and geophysical (GPR and Electrical Resistivity) methods which has been subject to many previous studies. The Kütahya fault shows a distinctive morphology between Paleozoic age basement rocks and Tertiary age cover rocks and also forms the southern border of E - W trending Kütahya basin. Kütahya basin is a half-graben looking which is controlled by Kütahya fault from southern part.Along the fault zone, the folds, trust fault, strike slip fault and normal fault traces were observed and because of these observation the region effected from different tectonic regimes were understood. Beside these the fault planes on Kütahya fault also include normal and trust fault scratches which is an also evidence for the different tectonic regimes in the region. The Kütahya fault primarily formed as a left lateral strike slip fault under the effect of NE - SW trending compression regime, but nowadays the fault has a normal fault character which was developed by NNE - SSW trending extensional tectonic regime. The GPR and Electrical Resistivity methods were conducted to determine buried fault locations in the basin. On this purpose the profile lines placed to the field, where active tectonic structures (triangular surface, sedimentation conies, etc.) observed. With geophysical methods, the exact location of the fault, depth and the other parameters were determined.Key Words: Kutahya Fault, Kutahya Basin, Active Tectonic, GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), DC Resistivity methods.
