Abstract (EN)

Coal is still an important raw material in the field of energy production. The production of underground coal seams requires significant safety measures due to the methane gas content. In this study, a new temperature controlled system was designed to determine the gas content of coal seams by direct method. The designed system was used to determine the gas content of the coal samples taken from underground coal mines which are operating in Gediz and Tavşanlı districts of Kütahya. The newly designed system is intended to carry out the entire gas content determination process in the same sealed container and at a constant temperature. Also, continuous gas output was allowed in the grinding stage and pressure increases in the sealed container were prevented. Performing all processes related to the determination of the gas content of coal in the same container and not requiring different equipment have made the method easy to apply. Carrying out experiments at constant temperature and atmospheric pressure have enabled more accurate detection of the amount of gas that can be mixed with the air in the conditions of the mine environment. As a result of the experiments, it was determined that, under standard temperature and pressure conditions, Gediz samples had a gas content of 0,30 m3/ton on the original basis and Tavşanlı samples had a gas content of 0.63 m3/ ton averagely.
