Investigation of leisure time activities and socialization levels of detainees/convicts in Kütahya T type prison and execution institution

The aim of this study is to examine the leisure time activities and socialization levels of individuals detained/convicted in Kütahya T-type penal institutions according to various variables. The population of the study consists of individuals detained/convicted in T-type penal institutions located throughout Turkey. The sample group consists of 470 participants who are detained / convicted in Kütahya T Type Prison and Execution Institution. The sample group was determined by the convenience sampling method. As a measurement tool, the "Socialization Scale for the Hearing Impaired" developed by Karakullukçu (2020), whose validity and reliability study was also conducted, was used to determine the level of socialization. After the data obtained met the normality assumptions, descriptive analysis (percentage and frequency) and one-way analysis of variance (One-Way ANOVA) tests were applied to the data. Welch values were taken into consideration according to the homogeneity assumptions of the data. As second level tests, Tukey and Games-Howell tests were applied as Post Hoc tests. The findings were evaluated according to p<.05 significance value. A significant change was observed in the assertiveness sub-dimension according to the "age" variable. A significant difference was observed in the friendship and assertiveness sub-dimensions according to the "marital status" variable. According to the variable "What does the concept of leisure time mean to you", there is a significant relationship in the sub-dimensions of social adaptation, assertiveness, cultural adaptation and socialization score. According to the variable "What effect do leisure time activities leave on you", there is a difference in the sub-dimensions of social adaptation, assertiveness, cultural adaptation, friendship and socialization total score. As a result; according to the effect of leisure time activities, it was seen that it was fun and exciting and relaxing at the level of social cohesion, entrepreneurship and socialization. In cultural reflection, besides being fun and exciting, it was seen to have a dominant role in terms of coping with social status, establishing relationships with people and work efficiency. It is thought that increasing the participation of inmates and detainees in leisure time activities will have a positive effect in terms of reintegration into society during and after the detention process.
