ABSTRACT MSc THESIS A STUDY OF LASER-PLASMA INTERACTION MECHANISMS O. Murat OZKENDIR DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supcrvizor: Prof. Dr. Yüksel UFUKTEPE Year: 2000, Pages: 91 Jury: Prof. Yüksel UFUKTEPE : Assoc. Prof. Metin ÖZDEMİR : Assist. Prof. Zerrin ESMERLİGİL Plasmas may have useful applications in future accelerator technology. Laser- driven fusion is one of the great scientific challenges of our times. The excitation of plasma by electron beams has been of interest to plasma physicists for many years. During the past few years there has been a great deal of theoretical and experimental works on laser-plasma interactions. The acceleration mechanism of this process can be easily observed by computer simulations. In this study, cold beam and plasma interactions were studied by using one dimensional electrostatic process. The mechanism of acceleration process has been determined by computer simulation. The acceleration parameters were calculated. The calculated results are in good agreement with the computer simulations. Key Words: Plasma, Particle Acceleration, Wake Field, Computer Simulation II
