Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between internalized homophobia and gender roles of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) individuals. In 2017, 345 (127 female, 218 male) participants from 18 to 53 years of age were studied in various cities of Turkey within Snowball Sampling. Bem Gender Roles inventory, Internalized Homophobia Scale For lesbian, Internalized Homophabia Scale (For Gay and Bisexual men) and a Demographic Information Form, which has been prepared by researcher, were used to collect the data. In tha analysis of the data, T-Test, ANOVA, Correlation Analysis were used. As a result, it was determined that there is no relationship between internalized homophobia and gender roles. It was established that there is an obvious difference between the education levels of women and the "link with the lesbian community" sub-dimension and that, in this context, female university students are more homophobic than university graduates. Moreover, it was found that, for females in the subdimension "link with the lesbian community", the women with latent sexual orientation are more homophobic than those with declared sexual orientation. These results are thought to be closely related to fears of being exposed, rejected, and deprived of social support. It is assumed that this is caused by the heterosexist society and its sexist roles. This article also includes discussions about the results and suggestions in the context of the related literature.
