Privatization in the Russian Federation from the perspective of liberal constitutionalism

In the late 1980s, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) attempted to solve its economic and political problems through measures such as Glasnost and Perestroika. However, these efforts ultimately worsened the situation and led to the dissolution of the USSR in 1991. The Russian Federation emerging as the collapse of the socialist system, implemented radical changes to ensure its continuity. The most significant one of these radical changes was an unprecedented privatization method. The aim of this thesis, which was prepared under the title of "Privatization in the Russian Federation from the Perspective of Liberal Constitutionalism" is to examine how the comprehensive privatization policies implemented in Russia's transition period, between 1991-1999, affected the country's economic, political and social structure. In addition, another aim is to discuss the functioning of the laws and decisions adopted regarding this practice in the privatization process. The related study consists of three parts. The first part discusses the historical and theoretical framework of privatization from the perspective of liberal and socialist constitutionalism. In the second part of the study, during the USSR period, the provisions on the property and economic structure at the constitutional level have been included. The third part examines the privatization in the Russian Federation after 1991.
