Abstract (EN)
In this study, hindgut ciliate fauna of 15 Libyan domestic horses (Equus caballus Linnaeus, 1758) living in Sosa in the east of Libya was investigated. Ten species belonging to nine genera were identified. Although no new species were observed, this is the first report on hindgut ciliate fauna in Libyan domestic horses. The mean number of ciliates was 10±8,2×104 cells ml−1 of faeces and the mean number of ciliate species per host was 7,1±3,1. No ciliates were observed in two horses. Cycloposthium bipalmatum and Polymorphella ampulla were found to be with a high frequency of appearance 94,2% and 86,6 respectively. In contrast, species that had the lowest frequency of appearance in this study was Blepharoconus benbrooki 12,4%.
