Cross motifs in Lycian region stone artifacts

The subject of this thesis is the cross motifs in the stone works of the Lycian Region, now referred to as the Teke Peninsula, located in Antalya. In this thesis, a comprehensive examination was conducted on the stone works of the Lycian Region by reviewing scientific studies and publications previously conducted in the area. The analysis identified a total of 233 cross motifs in 26 ancient settlements within the Lycian Region. These cross motifs were cataloged in a dedicated section, accompanied by photographs and drawings of the works (where available). The catalog includes information such as cross type, location of the find, work type, technique, dating, and references used. Through the research conducted via scientific publications, a total of 14 types of cross symbols were identified. Furthermore, this study proposes additional categories to complement the existing typology, aiming to enhance our understanding of the subject. The thesis emphasizes both the diversity of stone works found in the Lycian Region and the prominent usage of cross motifs in the area.
