Abstract (EN)

Plants, which have been at the center of human life throughout history, continue their importance for both treatment and food today. Studies on the biological activities of plants that are used by the public have gained great importance in recent years. In order to contribute to such studies, it was aimed to determine the antiradical, anticancer, genotoxic and phytochemical properties of water, ethanol and methanol extracts of Linum mucronatum Bertol. (linen) and Lotus gebelia VENT. (gazalhorn) plants grown in Elazig. Antiradical studies were investigated against ABTS, DPPH and OH radicals, anticancer and genotoxic studies were investigated against A2780 human ovarian and MCF-7 human breast cancer cell lines. In addition, the amounts of free fatty acids, fat-soluble vitamins, phytosterols, total phenolics, total flavonoids and total proanthocyanidins contained in these two plants were determined. At the end of the study, all extracts of L. mucronatum were in the ABTS radical scavenging test; L. mucronatum methanol extract in the DPPH radical scavenging test; L. gebelia methanol and water extracts in the ABTS radical scavenging test; L. gebelia methanol extract in the OH radical scavenging test showed higher antiradical activity than the standard antioxidant BHT. It was determined that both plants were rich in total phenolic, flavonoid, proanthocyanidin contents and α-tocopherol, phytosterols and unsaturated fatty acids. As a result of anticancer analyses, it was determined that L. mucronatum ethanol and L. gebelia water extracts against A2780 cell lines, and L. mucronatum methanol and L. gebelia ethanol extracts against MCF-7 cell lines had the lowest IC50 values and therefore the most effective in vitro anticancer activity. In addition, as a result of the genotoxic analyzes carried out, it was understood by the Comet test that both plants carried out their anticancer activities through DNA damage.
