Abstract (EN)

Advanced Wastwewater Treatment Containing Lipids of Some Microalgae Biodizel use and İnvestigation of Potantial This work aims to analyze the possibility of growing lipid containing microalgae Scenedesmus obliquus and Chlorella protothecodies'in wastewater as a potential candidate for biodiesel production. In this study, the growth performances of S. obliquus and C. protothecodies were determined in the laboratory with synthetic and municipal wastewater treatment plant (activated sludge) effluents. Nutrient removal efficiencies of microalgae were also investigated. Each trial was done for a period of 13 days in the laboratory at average 25 0C. Under these conditions, results for synthetic wastewater revealed average lipid contents of S. obliquus and C. protothecodies 31-34 % and 37-43 % of dry-weight (dwt) biomass, respectively. Also, results for real wastewater revealed average lipid contents of S. obliquus and C. protothecodies 26-29% and 32-36 % of dwt biomass, respectively. The results showed that by the end of a 13-day continuous culture, S. obliquus could remove ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, and total organic carbon (TOC) by %91-97, % 94-99 and % 60-83 respectively from synthetic wastewater and the results also showed , C. protothecodies could remove ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, and total organic carbon (TOC) by 92-98%, 93-98% and 62-95 % respectively from synthetic wastewater. Our findings also showed that S. obliquus could remove total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and TOC by 98%, 90-98% and 84-93%, respectively from real wastewater while those were 90%, 90-99% ve 67-88%, respectively by C. protothecodies. According to our findings, Scendesmus obliguus and Chlorella protothecodies contains significant amounts of lipids for biodiesel production. At the same time high nutrient removal from wastewater is provided. For this reasons, these species both for the tertiary treatment of wastewater and for biodiesel production can be used. Key words: Wastewater, Microalgae, Biodiesel, Tertiary Treatment, Nutrient Removal, Lipid Production.
