The effect of the working status on burnout syndrome and academic performance in twelveth grade students

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is, to reveal the negative effects of working at a job by assessing burnout level of the last year high school students living in Bayrampaşa in İstanbul. In addition, the effects of these adolescents genders, the averages of their Marks at the end of the year, absenteesism periods at school and educational level of their parents on burnout are also investigated. Only the students living in Bayrampaşa who are working at any job or not are included in this study. Maslach Burnout Inventory ( MBI ) is used as measurement. And also, Individual Knowledge Form ( IKF ) is prepared by the researcher in order to determine the socio-demographical status of the participants. The socio-demographical features show that burnout levels of the students who are working at a job are higher than those of the students who aren't working, and self-efficacy levels of the students who aren't working are higher than those of the students who are working at a job. No significant results are obtained according to the socio-demographical features of the parents, such as educational level of them or their occupations. At discussion part at the end of the study various advice are given to the researchers , Psychological Counselors and families in the light of the datas obtained in the research.
