Abstract (EN)
Muhammed Tayyib Okiç, who was born in the town of Graçanitsa in the Tuzla Sanjak of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is the son of Mehmet Tevfik Efendi, who was educated in Istanbul madrasas and served as assistant to the Reîsu'l-Ulemâ of Sarajevo. Okiç, who completed his education in different cities of Europe and held official positions, came to Turkey in 1945. In 1950, he joined Ankara University Faculty of Theology as a professor. Apart from Ankara, he worked as an academician in Konya and Erzurum and educated many important figures of the theological academy. This study deal with Tayyib Okiç's life story, personality and works, as well as his contributions to the science of Tafsir. As a matter of fact, although it is stated in the sources that Tayyib Okiç's hadith personality is dominant, it is clear that he has a commentator identity from the works he produced and the discourses of his students. The works of Tayyib Okiç on the field of Tafsir, whose education and experience he received in Europe were combined with Islamic sciences and specifically the science of Tafsir, are also of great importance. This study aims to determine M. Tayyib Okiç's place in the Turkish Theological Academy and the science of Tafsir. Within the mentioned framework, determinations will be made by analyzing his own works and the discourses of the students he has trained.
