Evaluation of difficulties in emotion regulation and borderline personality disorder characteristics in patients with substance use disorder treatment

This research aims at comparing emotion regulation difficulties of the patients receieving treatment related to substance use and the characteristics of borderline personality disorder with a healthy control group. In addition to this, it intends to identify the correlation between difficulties in emotion regulation in substance use disorder and borderline personality disorder characteristics. The control group consists of 64 patients who receive inpatient treatment in Balıklı Rum Hospital and 64 healthy people being matched in terms of gender, age and education. Data was collected by the Sociodemographic Data Form, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale and Borderline Personality Inventory. During the comparison of quantitative data of two groups the test Student T was used. In order to evaluate the correlation between the variables the Pearson Correlation Analysis was used and the Pearson Chi Square Test, Fisher-Freeman-Halton Test and Fisher's Exact Test was used to compare the correlation between the qualitative data. The risk factors were examined with Logistic Regression Analysis. Difficulties in emotion regulation and borderline personality disorder characteristics were detected to be significantly higher compared to the control group. There is a correlation between difficulties in emotion regulation results and borderline personality inventory results.
