Earthquakes in Malatya on 6 February 2023 the effect on the work of binding makers

The earthquakes centered on Pazardzhik and Elbistan, which occurred on February 6, 2023, deeply affected many provinces in our country, including Malatya. As a result of the earthquakes experienced, serious destruction occurred in Malatya and these destructions will have an unforgettable impact on the people of Malatya for many years. Baglama makers are also among the people whose lives have been affected as a result of the earthquakes. A total of 8 baglama makers who were continuing their activities in Malatya before the February 6 earthquakes have been identified. It has been seen that two of these baglama makers make baglamas as amateurs and for hobby purposes, while the others have a baglama workshop and earn their living from baglama making, maintenance and repair work. In the research conducted, the changes in the general situation of baglama makers in Malatya before and after the date of February 6, 2023 were examined. The research is aimed at making due diligence and exhibits a descriptive feature. During the research process, digital and written sources were scanned in order to obtain information about the subject. Subsequently, personal interviews were conducted with baglama makers residing in Malatya and quantitative and qualitative findings on the subject were obtained and evaluated. As a result of the research, it has been determined that after the earthquakes, many of the baglama makers residing in Malatya have been disorganized, some have closed their workshop or moved to another place, some have left the city and some have stopped making baglamas.
