Evaluation of forensic women cases applied to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital emergency department

Abstract (EN)
Objective: Any event that is caused by external factors and causes deterioration of the physical and mental health of the person as a result of careless, imprudent, negligent or deliberate movements is meaningful by the judicial authorities and considered as a forensic case. Along with the changes in the role of women in social life, it is inevitable to find some forensic cases that women are included. In this study, it was aimed to examine the characteristics of forensic women cases that are taken from emergency service since women has an important impact on every part of the life. Materials and Methods: Medical records of 2546 women aged 18 years and over who applied to the Emergency Department of Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital between 01.01.2013 and 31.12.2017 were analyzed and evaluate these cases retrospectively for sociodemographic characteristics, injury characteristics and forensic report results. Results: Women forensic cases aged 18 years and over are 74.1% of all female forensic cases (n = 2546).The ages of the cases ranged between 18 and 89 years. The mean age of the cases was 34.82 ± 13.83 years.Up to the classification that is done according to the age groups of women, it is seen that most of the applications are done in the 20-29 age groups.If the months when the patients applied to the emergency department were examined, the most common application was done in August with 12.6% (n = 321). The most common case is traffic accident with 36.5% (n = 930), the second most common cause of work accident with 33.4% (n = 850). By looking at the results of the forensic report, it was determined that; 45.5% (n = 1159) of the cases were mild enough to be removed by the recruit with simple medical interference, 62.4% (n = 1589) stated that the injury did not cause to the exposed to vital hazard. Conclusion: Forensic cases constitute an important part of the emergency department. In our study, approximately one quarter of these forensic cases were female forensic cases, and it was found that women in our society also came to emergency services to a large extent as a result of forensic events. This is significant to prevent the victimization in these cases. It is important to note the traumatic lesions present in the forensic report according to the anatomic location and characteristics of the forensic patients to prevent physician safety and patient victimization in the legal process that may occur afterwards.
