Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the hydrology and circulation of Marmara Sea. The current system is taken up as three dimensional by using Princeton Circulation System. The common Marmara currents come into existence by the influences of two great forces. While the currents run from surface through Black Sea to Aegean Sea due to stream level difference; they reach to Black Sea from Aegean Sea as layer streams due to density difference. So that the model studies are operated by considering these two forces with the data?s belong to periods of 1992 October, 1993 February and July. By applying thermohaline forces to the model, the flow patterns which occur only from differences of temperature and salinity are estimated. Afterwards calculations of currents that occur due to sea level difference are investigated. Another subject that is considered in this study is the comparison of the physical characteristics of Marmara seabed (depth sea) with other seabed?s (Saroz, North Aegean, Middle Aegean) physical characteristics. It is seen from these studies that the replacement time of Marmara seabed?s sub stream is long. The data belong to 1992 October, 1993 February, July and winter, 1992 spring, winter, 1991 summer periods are analyzed by using Ocean Data View(ODV) program. The distribution how the stream masses inside basin show is found by T-S Analysis. Marmara Sea hydrology is investigated by vertical cross section and various seabeds of Marmara Sea. Results show the main properties of Marmara Sea circulation. Key words: Marmara Sea, physical characteristics, current system, sea level difference.
