Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, board games, which mostly recognized as "family games" in Turkey, and the relationships between the elements that form a board game are discussed in historical and cultural context. The evolutionary development of board games, which first appear in prehistoric times, is surveyed and their interactions with different cultures are examined.Board games, which mostly perceived as tools for recreation nowadays, are put forth to have carried cultural, social and religious functions. The effects of these functions had on the visual aspects of board games are observed.Board games are evaluated in historical continuum and the effects of advancements in printing techniques, communication and data processing technologies are discussed.The scope of this thesis is to construe the visual and structural repercussions that are affected by changes in approach to gameplay that took place and the cultural values these games interacted with throughout history.
