Abstract (EN)

The general purpose of this research is to examine the effect of the brain-based learning style cycle on the academic success of 6th grade secondary school students in mathematics, their 21st century skills, and their attitudes and values towards mathematics. As the research method, a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental research model with a control group was used. The experimental process was carried out in the first semester of the 2023-2024 academic year with a total of 72 students, 36 in the experimental group and 36 in the control group, studying in the 6th grade of a secondary school in the Western Black Sea region, over a 12-week period. In the experimental group, the lesson was taught based on the brain-based learning style cycle, and in the control group, the lesson was taught with traditional teaching. In the study, the "Academic Achievement Test" developed by the researcher to measure the change in students' academic achievements, and the "21st Century Test" developed by Mete (2021) to measure 21st Century skill levels. 21st Century Skills Measurement Scale," "Attitude Scale Towards Mathematics Lesson" developed by Gülburnu and Yıldırım (2015) to measure their attitudes towards the mathematics course, and "Values for Secondary School Students" developed by Çetin, D. and Coşkun, M. V. (2017) to measure their value levels. scale" was used. SPSS 17.0 package program was used to analyze the data. It was analyzed using independent sample t-test and dependent sample t-test, which are parametric tests. As a result of the research, academic success, attitude towards the course and 21st century skill levels of the experimental group students, who used the brain-based learning style cycle in the mathematics course, increased significantly. Although the value scale scores of the experimental group students increased, there was no significant difference compared to the control group students. It was concluded that the brain-based learning style cycle is effective in teaching.
