Abstract (EN)
Painting, which is a kind of document, has been a good instrument in transferring the developments of communities and their relations with mathematics to the present day. These two disciplines, which are considered to be different from each other, have influenced each other, and in every period there have been artists who form their works through mathematical perspectives. It has been and will be seen that some artists have knowingly or unknowingly benefited from mathematics in the compositional construction and the forming of the visuals of the painting. When the history of the art of painting up until today is studied, it will be seen that it has been in parallelism with the developments in mathematics. Like mathematics, painting also reflects its period. Every change and development in its period influences the artist, hence the artist?s works. When the paintings are visually analysed, mathematical knowledge and visuals pertaining parallel to these changes can be found. The coincidence of mathematics with painting in the historical process has been considered important in some periods and movements. In some periods the visuals of mathematics and in others the knowledge of it have been seen on the plane of painting. Various forms and signs, which are the visual elements of mathematics, have been in various pictorial expressions since prehistoric times. Mathematical visuals were first seen as notches on bones, and later as various forms and signs on cave walls, tablets, book illuminations, frescoes, miniatures and canvas paintings. Although most of these were much later associated with mathematics or other subjects, they have significance in showing the common points of the topic. During the Renaissance, mathematical knowledge had a presence in the art of painting in a way that is parallel to the scientific developments. In that era, mathematical concepts such as perspective, golden ratio, and aesthetics were among some compositional theories that were taken seriously by some artists in the art of painting. When we look at the periods of art history, we can see that mathematical concepts or symbols show themselves in painting from time to time in the development of centuries, movements, and styles. This thesis, in which the existence of mathematical visual elements and knowledge in the art of painting is studied, analyses mathematical visuals and knowledge. When the works by the artists using mathematical knowledge and visual elements in their paintings is analyzed, it is seen that mathematics is used as a compositional scheme on the surface of the painting and that these visual elements are used as abstract forms. In also Hatice Karadoğan?s paintings, visuals that are symbols and forms of mathematics are used in a plastic approach. At the end of this research, Hatice Karadoğan came across the likes of her works based on the concept of ?Blackboards? in the history of painting. After her analyses, her perspective toward her own paintings being changed and improved, she has decided to continue her new works in the light of the conclusions she has derived from this research. Keywords: Mathematics, the Art of Painting, Visual, Form, Symbol, Golden Ratio, Aesthetics, Perspective, Measurement, Analysis.
