Abstract (EN)

Cities have become spaces shaped by the basic dynamics of capitalist capital today. The capital is the mainstay of capitalist accumulation. Parallel to the increase in production and consumption, cities, which are the places where the accumulation of capital extends itself to a wider area, have become a commodity themselves, in addition to being the areas where commodities are produced. With advances in transportation and communication technologies and increasing competition, capital has to overcome the distance barrier in space as quickly as possible. For this reason, the capitalist mode of production needed proper arrangements in urban space in order to be able to spread on space. establishment of uninterrupted transport system between urban centers are at the forefront of these regulations. In this context, one of the factors that have an important share in the production of capitalist ideology in urban space is motor vehicles, especially automobiles. The automobile is a key point in understanding the capitalism-city relationship, not only as a means of transportation, but also as a stylistic object, as well as the huge budgets allocated to it and its central importance in the establishment of the city. The main purpose of this study is to discuss how capitalist capital designs urban space. It is also to describe the role of automobile in the capitalist construction of urban space and to describe the Critical Mass Movement as a transformative urban-social movement in the context of urban and urban rights, which demands the fair sharing of urban space against automobile-centered urban design. Accordingly, the area can be embodied as one of the problematic Critical Mass research activities in Turkey city of Izmir province, which occur regularly been selected. In order to determine the transformations of Critical Mass actions in the context of the right to city and fair sharing of space, in-depth interview technique was used among qualitative research methods and techniques. As a result of this research, the movement of bicycle users involved in the CM action was questioned with the concept of the right to the city while evaluating a struggle for the right city. As a result of the data obtained, the main argument of the study is that cities are designed with motor vehicles and Critical Mass movement is a new social movement that demands the right of the city and fair sharing of the city by objecting to this with various resistance mechanisms.
