RESEARCH OF SPATIAL IMAGE-SPATIAL PRACTICE RELATED/UNRELATED ON THE IMMIGRANTS OF BULGARIA IN 1950-1951 AND 1989 IN BURSA (Ph.D. Thesis) Berrin AKGÜN GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY December 2001 ABSTRACT Todays spatial practice of the two different immigrant groups those immigrated from Bulgaria to Turkey in the year 1950-1951 and 1989 those living in Bursa,were examined. How the spaces were produced and become a body by the dominant knowledge and coding about spaces and immigrants in the society are emphasized. And then how they change the spaces during the spatial practice are being indicated by observing the physical spaces they live today and interviews made with them about the way they practice those spaces. The appropriation in the physical spaces they live determined by the spatial images of the space they live in Bulgaria and spatial image of Turkey while they were in Bulgaria. The changes in the images of space while they live in Turkey are also indicated.
