Abstract (EN)
The role of sufi dervishes is very important in the establishment of Ottoman State. These Sufis participated in Islamic wars of conquest; they worked actively in the shaping of Anatolia. Their share is great in the islamization of Anatolia.One of the Ottoman Sufis in the establishment period is Emir Sultan. He lived in the establishment period of Ottoman State, between 770-833/1368-1429. He prayed and entreated spiritually all his life for the success of sultans. Along with his sufi character, he was an important person for being Yıldırım Bâyezit?s the son in law. He personally played an active role during besiege of İstanbul by participating the action together with his dervishes.Because Emir Sultan was an important person in the society then, legends about his waere narrated both during his life time and after his death. As a matter of fact, his legend were began to be printed in a short time after his death. Hüsâmeddin Bursevî is one of those who wrote about his legends. His book bears the title of Menâkıb-ı Emir Sultan (Legends about Emir Sultan).In this book, Emir Sultan?s physical features, the dresses he wears, his good moral values, his aphorisms, and that he is from Buhara is narrated and adding that his blood line reaches to that of the Prophet Muhammad?s (s.a.v.) [meaning God command and salute him] through his father, that his sheik is Seyyid İsâ and the names of those in his succession, that he showed oracle in Buhara when he was only a child, that after leavin Buhara, he came to Bursa after visiting Hejaz, Damascus, Karaman, Niğde, the city of Hamid, Kütahya, and the town of İnegöl, the oracles he performed on the way to Bursa, and extraordinary attitudes he showed while he was in Bursa. Again, in his legends, it is narrated that he had relations with Yıldırım Beyazıt, Murat II, Molla Fenârî and Hacı Bayram Veli, that he married to Hundî, daughter of Yıldırım Beyezid, and that he had two daughters and a son, and the oracles he showed during the construction work of Ulu Mosque. Emir Sultan?s interpretations about the verses of the ascension of the Prophet Muhammad to the heaven and verse 64 of the Isrâ Sure (section of the Koran), that he determined by oracle of the place of his sepulcher to be built on, his being seen in the architect?s dreams while he was constructing the his sepulcher, about caliphs who took over his post, about the caliphs he sent out of Bursa, and about the writers who wrote legends about Emir Sultan and his caliphs. At the end of the legendary (the book containing legends about Emir Sultan and his caliphs), grace is said for Emir Sultan and his caliphs. It is also narrated that Emir Sultan was seen as harbinger in Süleyman the Magnificent?s dreams during his campaigns to Persia and so ends the legendary.
