Comparıng sensory ıntegratıon and bobath neurodevelopmental therapy for the mental motor retardatıon chıldren

The aim of the study is comparing the sensory integration therapy and the Bobath neurodevelopmental therapy. The subject of the study involves 60 children with MMR diagnosis and they all continue a rehabilitation program in Bizim Karadeniz Special Education and Rehabilitation Center. The children who attend this study deviate in 3 group. 1. group consist of Bobath NDT therapy, 2.group consist of sensory integration therapy and 3. group is control group. After note down the social-demographic information, postural praxis test, bilateral motor coordination test and standing and walking balance test which are the tests of the Sensory Integration, and Functional Independence Measurement Scala which is using for determine the functional indipendence level, and Gross Motor Measurement test which determine the gross motor function level assessed. At the end of the study, most children in three group have mild or minimal IQ level and most of the parents have low earnings and education. In the statistical analysis, we see that there is meaningful difference between before the therapy and after the therapy assesment values (p<0,05). The assesment parameters of the children who takes sensory integration and bobath NDT therapy there is meaningful rising. But the children in the control group meaningful rising in the parameters only in the GMFM scores before and after their own program. (p<0,05), there is no meningful rising for the others. Group 2 is more succesful then the other groups for about the parameters of Bilateral Motor Coordination and Postural Praxis (p<0,05). We think that Bobath NDT and sensory integration therapy are used together for increasing the motor performance and performance of balance and daily living activities for the children with MMR is more important.Key words: mental motor retardation, handicapped child, Bobath neurodevelopmental therapy, Sensory Integration Therapy
